Back in early May, three people from Meltwater Drive and Buzz attended a pub quiz at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden. Why you ask? Well, a couple of weeks ago I contacted a student project, known as FocusOn 2010. I am myself a former student of the university and also a former participant of the yearly project FocusOn. My goal was to create a partnership that generates awareness and a buzz about Meltwater at the university. The purpose is to of course market us and let driven students know that we are looking to hire talented, ambitious graduates.
FocusOn is a yearly project at KTH where ten driven students travel to a country of choice with a specific purpose. This year the focus is on South Korea and the participating students have the goal of creating an awareness of the international career possibilities in South Korea.
Now why did I choose to contact FocusOn for a partnership? Basically, I know that the students in the project are really driven people and they can be of great assistance in the task of creating awareness of Meltwater at the university.
Finally, after some discussions back and forth (and after convincing Niklas De Besche on the idea) we created a partnership, which I would love to share with you. Basically it consists of three parts, the pub quiz being the first.
The pub quiz was a fun and social event for the students to market their own project at the university. We took the opportunity to attend the quiz to show ourselves in a fun and social environment together with the students. At Meltwater we are great at moving mountains and do tremendous things, but winning a pub quiz is not exactly our thing. Not for me, Alexander Molin (Drive) and Olof Funck (Buzz) anyway. But we had fun!

FocusOn Pub Quiz night
During that night we promoted a bigger event to the students, which is a recruiting event we will have with the help of FocusOn 2010. The recruitment will be held in June on campus and the idea is that the participants of FocusOn will market the event and find driven job-seeking students. It’s a great chance for students to take responsibility and awareness on their own campus. At the moment, there are ongoing Facebook campaigns about the events, Meltwater posters all over campus, former classmates and their friends e-mailing me with questions etc.
The third and last part of this partnership is a student fair in October. When the FocusOn participants have traveled to South Korea they will be presenting their findings in a two-day fair where their partners are given the opportunity to attend the fair. So of course, we will be there representing Meltwater and networking with graduates.
So this was basically it – and I am personally looking forward to the results and will gladly share it with you guys when the project ends.

Good idea Aref. I’m interested in learning more about what kind of feedback you received. Will reach out next week. BTW, great meeting you at KO!
Thanks Jonas!
It was great meeting you too.
Sure, lets talk next week. We also had a sales workshop at the office, together with 25 students. It was a success and I have really interesting feedback on that.
Aref, what a great initiative. I can’t wait to hear the feedback and outcome, in the meantime get studying random facts(always useful @pub quizzes!).
