Take it to the Mattresses

The Sky's the LimitIt all started for me when I read the company brochure online, praising how Meltwater prides itself in its culture and belief in people. My first thought was: “too good to be true,” but secretly, I was hoping it would turn out to be all that was described in the recruiting material.

The next step was recruitment, where I met some of the Meltwater people: Sales Managers, Managing Directors, Area Directors, all taking their time to recruit individuals they felt truly passionate about and wanted to invite to be part of the team. That recruitment turned out to be the first day…

I remember coming across the Meltwater News International Management Trainee ad so clearly. Being funny without a script is the holy grail of comedy. Taking time to look back, I think there are parallels to sales, and I see where I was able to apply concepts from improv into my sales career.

There is truth in comedy. To be funny, you have to be honest in order for the audience to relate. For example, it would be difficult to carry a scene doing something unbelievable…

New Year's Resolutions

January is always a time for New Year’s resolutions. People around us are talking about their new lifestyles; one person has decided to quit smoking, another person has decided to spend more time with his/her family and some even resolve not to have any resolutions at all. The same phenomenon takes place almost everywhere in the world.

While I was at the gym a few days ago (which was packed with people resolved to get fit in the New Year), I thought about defining my own goals for the year, and I wanted them to be great. Then I thought about…
